Folder Resource Mobilization Strategy

There is no shortage of environmental and development challenges facing governments around the world today: climate change, water and air pollution, species loss. Many of these challenges cross national borders, and too often negatively affect developing countries, especially the world’s most vulnerable, in disproportionate ways.

The Convention always sets high economic, social and ecological goals. More often than not, developing countries lack financial resources to follow the level of ambition pursued by the CBD. To make the Convention work, developing countries need to be provided with the necessary financial and technical support.

Despite substantial contributions of the GEF, national governments and donor countries, the Convention has not yet sufficiently met its objectives. Conserving biodiversity worldwide requires more solutions. The CBD needs to find additional financial resources and new financing mechanisms, apply a more efficient use of resources and improve cooperation between sponsors.
